Saatva and Helix are two of the most popular mattress brands on the market. Each company has a wide variety of mattresses to choose from, so there’s a model for every type of sleeper. On both Saatva and Helix’s websites, you may take a quiz to help you figure out which mattress is most suited for your needs.

Mattresses include the Classic, Latex Hybrid, HD and Youth versions from Saatva’s collection. There are three hardness levels and two thicknesses to choose from in the Saatva Mattress innerspring model. Heavyweight sleepers will find comfort in the HD innerspring mattress. Designed for children, the Youth has a movable innerspring. The Latex Hybrid utilizes both natural latex and a coil core in its construction. It’s well-known that Saatva provides exceptional customer service and complimentary White Glove shipping.

It’s possible to find a suitable hybrid mattress for any sleeper thanks to Helix’s huge range. There are six basic designs: the Sunset, the Moonlight, the Midnight, the Dusk, the Twilight, and the Dawn. Each of these can be customized. A Luxe upgrade is available for each of these models, which adds additional features like zoned lumbar support, a quilted cushion top, a taller profile, and a longer guarantee. Plus-size sleepers will appreciate the Helix Plus model’s additional support and durability.

It’s important to weigh the pros and downsides of both Saatva and Helix. In this section, we’ll compare and contrast Saatva vs Helix in terms of cost, warranty details, and performance evaluations in order to help you make an informed selection.

Helix vs Saatva: Which is Better for You?

In order to keep this comparison limited, we’ll focus on the Helix Midnight and Saatva Classic mattresses, both of which are available from Helix and Saatva. The Helix Midnight is a unique hybrid mattress since it incorporates both memory foam (to provide some cushioning) and pocketed coils. The Saatva has an innerspring-like feel because to its coil design.

There are a slew of variables that go into determining which of these is the greatest mattress for you. The sort of mattress you need depends on your body type, size, shape, and weight as well as the way you sleep and other preferences. Even though not every bed will be ideal for every situation, I’ll do my best to highlight the distinct advantages of each of these beds. You may read more about my experiences with Helix Midnight and Saatva mattresses, respectively, in my reviews.

Who Should Buy the Helix

  • Those who sleep on their backs will appreciate the Helix Midnight’s hybrid design the most. As a result, the hip and lower back should be relieved of pressure by the memory foam comfort layer as well as the pocketed coils that are located at the foot of the mattress.
  • Those who sleep in a variety of positions may also appreciate the bouncy feel of this mattress. The Helix Midnight’s buoyant lift could help these people get about and shift positions at night.
  • The Helix Midnight is also a great option for couples, in my opinion! This mattress features excellent edge support, which means that the sides are strong enough to allow two people to sleep on the entire mattress. You won’t be woken up by your partner’s snoring thanks to the bed’s excellent motion isolation.

Who Should Buy the Saatva

  • The Saatva Classic might be the right choice for you if you prefer a more conventional innerspring sensation. This mattress has a bouncy, supportive, and firm coil design. Additionally, the Saatva Classic comes in three firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. This is something to keep in mind when shopping. I’m only comparing the Luxury Firm model, which has a medium-firm feel, for the purposes of this comparison.
  • Those who suffer from back pain while sleeping on their backs may find this mattress particularly beneficial. You should be able to put your hips in a good alignment with your shoulders thanks to the bed’s strong rise.
  • You may also want to consider this bed if mobility is important to you. If you’re a morning person who likes to get out of bed quickly, this firm mattress is a good choice.

Helix vs Saatva: Similarities and Differences

Here are the basic similarities and differences between these two mattresses before we get into the more in-depth areas of this comparison.. As we learn more about the Helix and Saatva beds, this will help us put things in perspective.

saatva-vs-helix.jpeg

Main Similarities

  • The most notable likeness between the Helix Midnight and the Saatva Classic is the use of individually wrapped coils to provide a supportive, comfortable, and supportive sleep surface. It doesn’t mean, however, that these beds are the same in terms of how they feel.
  • Both of these beds, in my opinion, are suitable for back sleepers. In order to maintain a neutral spine alignment, they are firm and supportive, so they may lift the hips in line with the shoulders. This is critical for relieving stress at the places of pressure in the body.

Main Differences

  • Compared to the Luxury Firm Saatva, the Helix Midnight offers a softer, more pressure-relieving feel. Those who sleep on their side or suffer from aches and pains in the shoulders and hips might choose the Helix Midnight.
  • The Saatva, on the other hand, is a far more solid choice than the Helix Midnight. The Saatva mattress is a solid choice if you prefer a firm mattress.
  • Saatva does not come compacted in a box, therefore the Helix Midnight is your best option if you want a bed-in-a-box mattress.
  • Compared to the Saatva, the Helix may be a better option for budget-conscious consumers.
  • Last but not least, the Helix Midnight boasts superior motion isolation than the Saatva. If you share a bed with a snorer, this could be an important distinction to keep in mind.

Sizing Options

There are numerous sizes to choose from, ranging from a twin to a California king. It’s less expensive and takes up less room in your house to buy a smaller mattress, but you may find that it’s more uncomfortable. While a larger mattress may provide the illusion of greater room, it is more expensive, takes up more room, and is more difficult to move than a smaller one.

The mattress’s height and weight are other crucial considerations. Larger sleepers may benefit from thicker mattresses, which tend to be more supportive. Some people may find it easier to get into and out of a model that is higher or lower in profile, depending on their height. The bed’s overall height is influenced by the foundation’s or frame’s height. The ease with which the mattress may be moved and the type of foundation or frame it can be supported by are both influenced by the weight of the mattress.

In comparison to Helix, Saatva has fewer models although several are available in split king and split California king sizes. The Saatva Mattress is the only one of the two brands that allows you to customize the height. Saatva’s mattresses are slightly heavier than Helix’s, although being in the same weight range.

Helix has a greater variety of models. As a result of their great visibility, all of these people may require deep pocket sheets to ensure a suitable fit.

Construction and Materials Comparison

A mattress’s feel, performance, and longevity are all influenced by its materials and structure. Saatva focuses on innerspring models, while Helix employs a hybrid approach.

The term “traditional mattress” usually conjures images of an innerspring type. A thin comfort layer is placed on top of a foundation of support coils. Breathable, bouncey and easy-to-maneuver innerspring mattresses are common.

As a general rule, hybrid mattresses combine characteristics from both innerspring and all-foam mattresses, making them more versatile. Memory foam, polyfoam, and/or latex are commonly used in the comfort system. Hybrid mattresses are often a good compromise between conformability, motion isolation, temperature regulation, and springiness.

Saatva

GOTS-certified organic cotton and an antibacterial treatment are used in the construction of all Saatva mattresses. The Saatva Mattress, the Youth, and the HD are the three innerspring variants offered by the brand. The hybrid design of the Latex Hybrid is employed.

Saatva Mattress

There are three firmness settings and two height options available for the Saatva Mattress, making it highly adaptable. There are three firmness levels to choose from: Plush Soft (3), Luxury Firm (6), and Firm (8). The six conventional sizes, a split king, and a split California king are all available. In addition to these, it contains:

  • GOTS-certified organic cotton with an antibacterial treatment covers the 3-inch pillow-top, which is hypoallergenic, breathable, and GOTS-certified. Cushioning is provided by the cover’s inclusion of polyfoam.
  • Back support and pressure reduction can be improved with the addition of a lumbar pad made of memory foam.
  • Improved Airflow: The top layer of coils adapts to movement and minimizes motion transfer while enhancing airflow.
  • Enhanced Air Circulation and Responsiveness with a Tempered Coil Core.
  • Rails with Polyfoam: Polyfoam wraps around the coil systems to keep the edges from sagging, making it easier to get in and out of bed and use the entire surface.

Saatva Latex Hybrid

There is no synthetic material in Saatva’s hybrid model. If you like a mattress that’s soft enough to minimize pressure while yet providing sufficient support for most sleepers, the Latex Hybrid may be a suitable fit. This is what it looks like:

  • An antibacterial treatment and GOTS certification may be found on the organic cotton used for the Euro-exterior. top’s
  • As a natural flame retardant, the cover has an organic wool layer that cushions and regulates temperature while also providing a layer of GOTS-certified organic wool.
  • Natural, hypoallergenic, and Rainforest Alliance-certified five-zone Talalay Latex: The five zones of firmness are designed to provide optimal support and relief from stress and strain.
  • Each pocketed steel coil is individually adjustable and does not transfer motion to other coils. Edge support can be improved by zoning around the perimeter of a room.
  • An organic cotton and wool loft pad serves as the system’s foundation.

Saatva HD

Weights up to 500 pounds are accommodated by the Saatva HD, an innerspring mattress with a firm (7 firmness) rating. The 15.5-inch thickness of the HD Mattress makes it a notable product. The HD Saatva includes:

  • An antibacterial treatment has been applied to the polyfoam that makes up a 3-inch Euro-top.
Organic Rainforest Alliance-certified five-zone Talalay latex is hypoallergenic, breathable and responsive. Zoning improves the support in the centre of the bed, which helps to maintain a healthy spine.
  • Comfort layers of foam enhance the contouring for added pressure alleviation. Memory Foam and Polyfoam.
  • Strong, Long-Lasting Coil Core: The core is made up of coils that are designed to be far stronger than the industry standard.
  • As the coil system compresses, polyfoam serves as a base layer.
Reinforcement of the edges of the coil system is provided by the use of high-density polyfoam.

Saatva Youth

The Saatva Youth Mattress is designed for youngsters between the ages of 3 and 12 who are in the process of developing their bodies. This mattress can be used on either side. The medium (5) side is for children ages 3 to 7, while the firm (7) side is for children ages 8 to 12. The Saatva Youth is made up of the following:

  • With an antibacterial treatment, water-resistant finish, and waterproof barrier, the GOTS-certified organic cotton used to cover the bed is designed to protect against microorganisms growing and mishaps.
  • Polyfoam: The comfort layer on both sides of the bed is polyfoam. The polyfoam is zoned on the medium side to help correct the spine. Convoluted polyfoam provides support and breathability on the hard side.
  • Recycled steel coils are placed between the two levels of comfort to provide support for both the front and back.

Helix

Helix offers a Luxe version of each of its six basic hybrid models. In addition, the Helix Plus is a plus-size-specific hybrid built for people who are a size larger than average. To ensure that all Helix mattresses are free of potentially dangerous ingredients, they have been certified by CertiPUR-US and OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Memory Plus Foam and/or Helix Dynamic Foam are used in each mattress to mold to the body and alleviate pressure points. Mattresses made of Memory Plus Foam and Helix Dynamic Foam are both latex-like in their responsiveness. To prevent motion transmission, promote air circulation, provide bounce, and provide solid edge support, all Helix mattresses feature wrapped coils in their foundations.

For those who prefer a more luxurious feel, the Helix Luxe choices include zoned lumbar support and an extra layer of foam for deeper contouring. In addition, the Luxe mattresses are two inches taller and come with a greater warranty period than the competition.

Pricing Information

The materials, construction, sizing, certifications, and policies all play a role in determining the cost of a new mattress. The average cost of a queen-sized mattress is between $1,000 and $2,000, despite the fact that a new mattress may be purchased for as little as a few hundred dollars.

It is more affordable to buy an innerspring or all-foam mattress than a hybrid or latex mattress. It is not always true that the most expensive mattress is usually the best. You should focus on the aspects that are most relevant to you depending on your sleeping habits rather than on the rest of the product.

Many online mattress retailers provide regular offers and discounts, especially around the holidays, so we’ll post the manufacturer’s retail prices below.

Overall, Saatva’s models cost more than Helix’s, although they are still within the range of the average competitor’s pricing. This is the most expensive model in the Saatva HD line because of its thickness and unique components. The Latex Hybrid may be a particularly good deal because other companies’ hybrid and latex models are more expensive on average.

Hybrid versions in the Helix family are reasonably priced. Luxe versions are more expensive than the ordinary alternatives, yet they still come in at a reasonable price when compared to premium models from other manufacturers.

Mattress Performance Ratings

Focusing on a few aspects will help you narrow down your search for a new mattress, which can be overwhelming with so many alternatives on the market.

Durability
You need to know how long your investment will last before making a significant purchase, like a new mattress. Mattresses have a life expectancy of 6 to 8 years, depending on a variety of conditions, but they can survive much longer than that. How long a mattress lasts depends on a variety of factors, including the materials used, the weight of the sleeper, how well it is maintained, and how often it is rotated.

Motion Isolation
The ability of a mattress to absorb vibrations, known as motion isolation, is especially advantageous for people who sleep with a spouse. A mattress with a high rating in this category may be ideal for you if you or your partner are easily awakened by motion passing across the sleep surface.

Because of their springy cores, innerspring mattresses tend to enable vibrations to travel through the mattress, whereas all-foam mattresses are better at insulating movement. Foam comfort layers and/or pocketed springs, on the other hand, have become increasingly common in recent versions with coil systems.

Sex
When looking for a mattress, it’s crucial to consider your sleeping patterns as well as your lifestyle. An all-foam mattress may give a sinking sensation that impedes movement, but it also provides additional traction. Many couples enjoy having sex on an innerspring or hybrid mattress because it is bouncy and responsive. Temperature management, noise reduction, and edge support are just a few examples of the many variables that go into creating an enjoyable gaming environment.

Temperature Neutrality

An painful side effect of sleeping too hot is that it can reduce the amount of time you get to rest. A mattress with a good amount of airflow helps keep the temperature of the body within a safe range. Sleeping hot can be caused by a variety of things, including the material of the bedding, the sleeper’s clothing, and even the temperature of the room itself.

A common misconception about memory foam is that it traps heat since it molds to the body and doesn’t allow for much air movement. Some mattresses with this material have cooling components as a counterweight.

Pressure Relief
For side sleepers, pressure alleviation is a must-have element in a mattress. In order to minimize pressure on their shoulders and hips, side sleepers choose a mattress that allows them to sink in a little more. A mattress with a good balance of conforming and support is ideal for most sleepers, however this depends on the individual’s weight, height, and sleeping position.

Off-gassing
When you first set up a new mattress, you’ll notice that it has an odor. As soon as you remove the package, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are released into the air. In a well-ventilated space, this could last anywhere from a few hours to many days. Off-gassing may be more important to consider if you are sensitive to scents than the odors themselves.

Ease of Movement
An easy-to-move mattress is responsive to a sleeper’s movement or position shift. Many all-foam models cling to the body and don’t return to their original shape when you move. It can be more difficult to change positions if you’ve sunk too far in. Mattresses with coil cores and firmer mattresses tend to perform better in this area, which may be desirable for people who constantly shift positions.

Edge Support
Sagging around the perimeter is reduced and the useable surface area is increased by a firm edge. These mattresses have a strong perimeter thanks to the reinforcement in their cores. ” This could comprise a polyfoam encasement or customized coils.

Trials, Warranty, and Delivery

Shipping

In the majority of internet mattress purchases, the mattress is compressed into a box and delivered directly to the customer’s door. This form of shipping is often included in the price of the item. Customers should be cautious when tearing open the plastic wrap to avoid damaging the mattress. The off-gassing of a compressed mattress is likely to be more pronounced and may require additional time to dissipate.

White Glove delivery is another option for expedited deliveries. Only a few businesses offer White Glove delivery for no additional cost, but the majority do. When you use this service, the mattress is delivered to your home and set up by the company or a contracted third party. Deliveries typically come with no additional packaging. White Glove delivery frequently includes old mattress removal, but this service may have an additional charge.

saatva-vs-helix-2.jpg

Saatva Shipping Policies

Anywhere in the contiguous United States, Saatva offers complimentary White Glove delivery. Your new mattress is delivered, set up, and removed and disposed of at no additional charge by a team of experts. After the client placed an order, the mattress is normally built and shipped to the customer’s location, which can affect the delivery time.

Helix Shipping Policies

Mattresses from Helix are shipped compressed in a box for free in the United States. Orders to Canada are subject to shipping charges. Once an order is placed, Helix normally manufactures the mattress and ships it between three to 10 business days. Additional fees apply for White Glove delivery.

Sleep Trial and Returns

At least a 90-day sleep trial is common in the internet mattress sector. To find out if the mattress is right for you, do this. In a store, you can get a broad notion of how a mattress looks and feels, but you’ll have a completely different experience once you’ve slept on it.

In some cases, the bed must be broken in for a certain amount of time before it is eligible for return. As long as the return window is open, many retailers allow customers to get their money back with no questions asked. Shipping and White Glove delivery fees are nonrefundable, however. Some companies may charge costs for return shipping, handling, or processing. It is common for companies to work with a local charity to remove the mattress and donate it.

Saatva Sleep Trial and Return Policy

A 180-day sleep trial is available to Saatva. Saatva will reimburse the purchase price, minus a $99 pick-up fee to cover gas and labor, if the buyer returns the mattress during the trial period. A $99 freight fee is required for mattress swaps at Saatva. A 180-night trial period is available if you switch your mattress.

Helix Sleep Trial and Return Policy

During the 100-night sleep trial, Helix requires a 30-day adjustment period before the mattress can be returned. You can request an additional comfort layer from Helix if you are not pleased with the mattress after 30 days. For whatever reason, Helix will pick up and dispose of the mattress and offer a complete refund if it isn’t the proper fit.

Warranty

In most cases, a new mattress comes with a 10-year warranty as standard. If a qualifying flaw arises, the original purchaser has recourse through this coverage, which is normally included in the purchase price of the mattress. Certain situations or flaws may not be covered by most warranties. When purchasing a policy, buyers should carefully review the fine print. Sagging or indentations caused by normal wear and tear are not often covered. The guarantee may be terminated if the mattress is misused or placed on an unsuitable basis.

For example, make sure you know if there’s a prorated warranty and what’s expected of the owner, how long the coverage lasts for faults, and how you may get compensation for them.

Saatva Mattress Warranty

Each Saatva mattress comes with a unique limited warranty policy. After that, the Saatva Mattress and Latex Hybrid have 15 years’ worth of warranty coverage, the Saatva Youth has 12 years, and the Saatva HD has 20 years’ worth.

Saatva guarantees a free mattress replacement for the first two years of ownership if there are any flaws in the materials or workmanship. Saatva will repair your mattress after the first two years for a fee of $99 each way.

Saatva’s Fairness Replacement Option is also available if your bed has qualifying problems after the second year. Instead of having to send your damaged bed in for repairs, you can get a discount on a new Saatva mattress and keep your old one.

Helix Mattress Warranty

The regular Helix mattresses have a 10-year limited warranty, while the Helix Luxe versions and the Helix Plus have a 15-year limited warranty. Permanent dents more than 1 inch, flaws that cause foam to split, and manufacturing problems are all covered by this warranty.

Helix has the option of either repairing or replacing mattresses that are found to be defective. Helix will reimburse the client up to $100 if it discovers an eligible issue, but the customer is liable for the shipping charges connected with repair and replacement.

Helix and Saatva Mattress Feel Comparison

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of how these mattresses feel. From hardness to support to pressure relief to cooling to edge-to-edge support and motion isolation, we’ll cover a wide range of feel characteristics while assessing each bed’s particular vibe. We should be able to get a complete picture of how the Helix Midnight and Saatva Classic mattresses sleep by taking into account all of these factors.

We must first recognize that how something feels to you is always going to be subjective and might vary greatly based on your height, weight, and body type. As a result, my impressions of the bed may differ significantly from yours.

Helix

I gave the Helix Midnight a firmness grade of 6 out of 10. Medium firmness is defined as a firmness rating between 6.5 and 7.5. This bed falls just short of the 6.5 mark.

It is my view that the Helix Midnight mattress, which combines foam and pocketed coils, is an excellent example of a hybrid mattress. The Midnight’s top layer of memory foam is designed to let you to sink in gradually while you relax. Slow-reacting material will conform to your body’s curves, easing stress in the shoulders, hips, and low back. As a result, the pocketed coils eject you from the building before it sinks too far. It’s a great mixture of lift and give that could be ideal for back sleepers and those who sleep on their stomachs as well (but more on position specifics below).

This bed’s edge support also pleased me greatly. To reiterate what I said at the top of this comparison, if you have a partner or simply love sleeping on all four corners of your bed, you’ll appreciate the extra foam edge support on this mattress. Additionally, the bed’s buoyant nature makes it easy to roll around and switch positions to your heart’s pleasure.

Also, the Helix Midnight is one of six regular Helix hybrid mattresses sold by the firm. Helix Sleep refers to the Midnight as its “Medium Feel” choice and its most popular mattress. The six Standard Helix hybrid mattress models, ranging from the ultra-soft Sunset to the strong and firm Dawn, are a wonderful feature of the Standard Helix line. There’s something for everyone’s slumber preferences, no matter where they fall on the firmness scale. At a later time, we will compare the Midnight to the other Helix models.

Saatva

I gave the Saatva a 7 out of 10 for stiffness after putting it through its paces. A slightly firm mattress is clearly evident when we compare it to the industry standard of 6.5.

This score came as no surprise to me at all. The coil-on-coil design of the Saatva gives it a lot of firmness, bounce, and support. Because it is an innerspring mattress, it places a higher value on providing bouncing support than it does on relieving pressure. Although the quilted cover and pillow top layer do provide a lovely layer of comfort as soon as you get into bed, it’s not as if the bed isn’t pleasant. However, there is a strong sense of support throughout the room.

People that sleep on their backs or stomachs will probably enjoy this atmosphere the best, in my opinion.

It’s possible that these people will like that the solid steel coils lift the hips in line with the shoulders, which helps to maintain a neutral spine alignment throughout the entire body. Pain patients, particularly those with conditions like fibromyalgia or arthritis, could benefit from this support. It can be ideal for people who don’t want to feel too smothered by their mattress because it keeps them “on top” of it rather than “in.”

The fundamental layer’s open spaces between the steel coils help keep the Saatva mattress cool as you sleep. It’s possible that the movement of your body will cause some air to flow through this layer, resulting in lower temperatures. The quilted cover’s organic cotton is also very permeable, which aids in the dissipation of body heat during the night. High-density poly foam edge support protects the steel coils in the center, another feature I appreciate. As a result, sleepers are able to reach the bed’s outside borders without feeling restricted. This might be a terrific feature for couples, as we mentioned with the Helix Midnight!

In addition to the Luxury Firm Saatva, the bed is also available in Plush Soft and Firm, with the luxury firm snuggled in between the two other firmness levels. You can choose between two firmness levels: Plush Soft and Firm. The Plush Soft is more for back/side sleepers and stomach sleepers, while the Firm is more for stomach sleepers.

Should I Buy Saatva or Helix?

Still undecided between the hybrid and the innerspring? Find out who we think each mattress is best suited for, as well as a couple of the product’s best qualities, by reading our suggestions below.

We Would Recommend Buying Saatva if You are Looking for:

  • Multiple ways to relax. The Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm varieties of this mattress are offered. In addition to the standard 11.5-inch bed, customers can now opt from a 14.5-inch variant.
  • The familiar feel of an innerspring mattress. Soft, responsive foams should provide a pleasant shopping experience. Sleepers should be able to stay on top of the bed with minimal sinkage.
    Improved assistance.
  • The double coil systems should be able to provide better support for the lumbar region by conforming to the body. Co-sleepers will appreciate the bed’s uniform feel from one end to the other.

We Would Recommend Buying Helix if You are Looking for:

  • Recommendations for a better quality of life. In order to accommodate a wide range of weights and positions, Helix offers a variety of comfort options. Customers will be guided through their mattress purchase with the use of a self-directed quiz.
  • A mash-up of two worlds. The coil arrangement underneath should provide plenty of bounce for those who want a deeper sinkage. Temperature-controlled airflow should be provided via this.
    Pressure is relieved more effectively.
  • This product’s dense foam layers should help alleviate pain in the shoulders and hips, which tend to sink deeper into mattresses than the rest of the body.. To keep things running as smoothly as possible, these materials should help reduce motion transfer.

Final Thoughts

A medium to medium-firm comfort experience is provided by both items, which should be suitable for most positions. Saatva is a good option for those searching for solid lumbar support, reinforced corners, and low sinkage. It’s no surprise that Helix devotees are looking for minimal motion transfer and an even deeper cradle.
