Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number are two of the most recognizable names in the mattress industry. They are two of the most well-known mattress firms in the world, and their products are all based on a single mattress component.

It’s TEMPUR memory foam, developed by NASA and marketed by Tempur-Pedic, which is used in the company’s mattresses and pillows. This material works to alleviate pressure, support the spine, and promote comfort by closely conforming to the body. It also excels at keeping one person’s movement from waking up the person lying next to them, making it ideal for a peaceful night’s sleep.

The adjustable air chamber that serves as the foundation of Sleep Number mattresses is the company’s most distinctive feature. Air can be added or removed from the mattress using a remote or smartphone app until the sleeper reaches their preferred Sleep Number firmness. If you’re looking for a mattress that can be customized for you and your partner, this is the one.

It can be difficult to pick between these two high-end mattress companies because of their distinct advantages. It can be difficult to tell the difference between all the mattresses on the market because each has a variety of options.

Tempur-Pedic vs. Sleep Number: Which is best for you? We’ve covered everything you need to know, from price to performance and everything in between.

Starting with a high-level comparison of Sleep Number versus Tempur-Pedic is a good place to begin. Table 1 provides a fast overview and serves as a framework for the more in-depth comparisons that follow.

Tempur-Pedic vs. Sleep Number

Key Differences

  • Memory foam is used in Tempur-Pedic mattresses, whereas comfort foam is used in Sleep Number mattresses.
  • With their built-in air chambers, Sleep Number beds are an excellent choice for couples with varying sleeping preferences.
  • A hybrid bed from Tempur-Pedic is available for people with larger builds.
  • It is possible to tailor the firmness of a Sleep Number mattress based on a person’s sleeping patterns and habits.

Key Similarities

  • It’s possible to have a white-glove delivery service and long warranty and trial periods.
  • Both have a wide range of construction and material options.
  • Both of these mattresses are classed as deluxe ones.

Sizing and Weight Options

Mattresses that are heavier are more difficult to move, which is a consideration for persons who plan to migrate. Having a mattress that is too low or too high might make it difficult to get in or out of bed, which is especially important for persons with knee, hip, or back problems.

With the correct mattress, you’ll be able to get a good night’s rest, as well as save money on your overall bill. Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number mattresses are the exceptions to the rule when it comes to regular mattress sizes, which include twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, and California king. Some mattresses are not available in lower sizes, while others have more specialized non-standard options.

A wide variety of mattresses may be found from both Sleep Number and Tempur-Pedic. There are no extreme short or tall alternatives in their height profiles. All of these mattresses can be fitted with standard-sized sheets.

Depending on the type, the weight of these mattresses can vary greatly. The mentioned weights are only a guide, as the firmness selection can affect the exact weight. Hybrid mattresses are heavier than all-foam mattresses since they include more material and are therefore heavier.

For those who prefer a smaller mattress, there are many of options to choose from in both well-developed product lines, including twin and full sizes.

Both brands offer split king and split California king sizes for couples searching for a larger mattress. In the event that you and your partner can’t agree on the ideal mattress firmness, this is a great option.

FlexTop king and FlexTop California king are also available for most models from Sleep Number. Only the head of the bed is split in a FlexTop mattress, rather than a fully split mattress. Legs and heads will rise and fall together on an adjustable base, but the heads can be placed at different angles.

Construction and Materials Comparison

The quality of a mattress’s structure has a significant impact on its feel, performance, and longevity. As a whole, a structure is made up of both the design and materials of its levels.

In general, a mattress consists of two sections: the top and the bottom.

  • In terms of direct impact, the comfort system is the most important component. Polyfoam, memory foam, latex, wool, cotton, and/or polyester are common materials.
  • The mattress’s support core is the mattress’s bottom layer. Mattress feel and comfort system performance are affected by it. The mattress’s support core also helps to avoid excessive sagging. For example, polyfoam or latex can be used in its construction, as can innerspring coils or air chambers.

It is possible to have a comfort system and a support core that are made up of the same or distinct materials. Each layer of the mattress should be made of high-quality materials to avoid a weak link that lowers the mattress’ overall performance.

Mattresses from Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number are described in detail in the following sections. Mattresses aren’t always easy to compare because both companies don’t divulge every detail regarding what goes into making them.

Tempur-Pedic

TEMPUR Foam

TEMPUR foam is a frequent component of Tempur-Pedic mattresses. Memory foam, or visco-elastic foam, is TEMPUR’s most popular product. Since it follows the body’s natural curves, it offers excellent pressure reduction and motion isolation.

Since the original TEMPUR foam was launched by Tempur-Pedic, it has undergone numerous iterations. There are several variations on this theme, such as TEMPUR-ES (extra soft), TEMPUR-APR (advanced pressure relief), and TEMPUR-CM+ (more porous for better ventilation).

Tempur-Pedic Adapt Mattresses

TEMPUR-ES and original TEMPUR foam are used in the comfort system of the Adapt and Adapt Hybrid versions. It is constructed of polyfoam in the Adapt and with pocketed innerspring coils in the Adapt Hybrid for a more springy feel.

A polyfoam support core is sandwiched between TEMPUR-ES and TEMPUR-APR foam in the LuxeAdapt, depending on the firmness level selected. If you prefer a firmer mattress, the ProAdapt mattress has TEMPUR foam in the top two layers that can be ES, APR, or original, and polyfoam in the support core. The pocketed innerspring support core of the ProAdapt Hybrid is topped with TEMPUR-ES and TEMPUR-APR foams.

Tempur-Pedic Breeze Mattresses

The “Breeze” brand is synonymous with models developed with heat dissipation in mind. Thermal management is aided by a Phase Change Material (PCM) that may draw heat in or expel it. Using this material in conjunction with the permeable cover helps to keep the wearer cool and dry.

Topped with TEMPUR-CM+ foam, the PRObreeze and PRObreeze Hybrid mattresses provide better airflow to prevent heat buildup. TEMPUR foam is used in the construction of this layer. Polyfoam is used in the PRObreeze, whereas pocketed coils are used in the PRObreeze Hybrid.

All of Tempur-most Pedic’s expensive versions, including the LUXEbreeze, include the same cooling features in the cover and PCM. The top component is TEMPUR-CM+. You can tell this mattress distinct from the rest thanks to its second layer of vented TEMPUR-APR foam.

Tempur-Pedic: Foam vs. Hybrid Mattresses

While the majority of Tempur-Pedic mattresses are made of foam, the company offers three hybrid mattresses. With an innerspring core, hybrid mattresses have greater bounce and edge support than all-foam mattresses. Compared to an all-foam mattress, hybrids sleep a little cooler because of the little heat buildup surrounding the coils. Hybrids, on the other hand, may impart more motion due of their increased bounce.

Tempur-Pedic Mattress Specifications

It is safe to say that for many years, Tempur-Pedic memory foams have been the industry standard. It is unclear how long these mattresses will last with regular nightly use because the company does not provide information on the layers’ or foams’ density. However, user reviews indicate that these mattresses are long-lasting and reliable.

Sleep Number

The Sleep Number Support Core

First and foremost, any examination of the Sleep Number product series must address the air chamber support core. A pump attached to the mattress may quickly inflate or deflate the mattress, resulting in an immediate change in the mattress’s feel.

Using a smartphone app or a remote, the user sees only their Sleep Number to regulate the pump. The higher the number, the firmer the texture. Most people stick to a consistent Sleep Number once they’ve found a comfortable setting, but one of the advantages of these mattresses is that sleepers have the ability to make real-time modifications.

Full-size and larger mattresses have distinct air chambers on each side of the mattress, which is a significant feature. There are separate Sleep Numbers for each member of a marriage so that they can get the sleep they desire.

SleepIQ Technology

The Sleep Number beds also have technology as a feature. They have a SleepIQ system that captures data about your sleep, gives you a daily score, and highlights trends and areas for growth. ” As your body’s needs change over the night, you may set the bed to automatically adjust your Sleep Number to match.

Sleep Number Comfort Systems

There is a foam comfort system on top of the air chambers in all of these mattresses. Sleep Number discloses the mattress’s total thickness, but does not go into detail regarding the materials or layering of the mattress. ‘ A majority of the mattresses use polyfoam or gel-infused polyfoam, except for the m7, which uses at least some memory foam. All of the foam comfort systems are shown in the table below.

Sleep Number Classic, Performance, and Innovation Series

There are two air chambers, auto-adjusting capabilities, and SleepIQ technology in the Classic Series of Sleep Number beds.. As shown in the preceding table, the Performance Series includes all of these features plus a thicker comfort system.

The Innovation Series includes all of the advantages of the Performance line, but it also includes an additional layer of pressure-relieving foam. A PCM-type material is also included in the Innovation models to help with general temperature regulation.

If you want to add contouring and motion isolation to your mattress, a thicker comfort system like that featured in our Performance and Innovation series is an excellent option. While a thicker comfort system may lessen the impact of a Sleep Number adjustment, the opposite is true as well. The company’s tallest models are also the most pricey.

Sleep Number Setup

Instead of using the Sleep Number app, you can purchase a remote with a two-year guarantee that you can use instead. Before you can use SleepIQ, you’ll need to get it set up on your home WiFi network.

Average Customer Ratings

It’s crucial to not simply believe the marketing when it comes to purchasing a mattress. Looking at user evaluations is a great method to learn about a mattress’ real-world performance.

When it comes to mattress reviews, the most trustworthy ones are from verified customers who haven’t been compensated in any other way for their thoughts. Third-party review sites like Amazon are also common sources of information for consumers.

Be wary of evaluations that don’t make sense or don’t have any context. You can get a better idea of a mattress’s merits and weaknesses by reading the reviews. To be on the safe side, if you see a lot of one-star reviews, you should be wary about the quality of the work or customer service.

Finally, keep in mind that reviews are just one piece of evidence and not the only one. Aside from reviews, you should take into account construction, materials, the return policy, shipping costs and warranties when making a purchasing decision for a mattress.

In-Depth Ratings

This information will help you find the finest mattress for your body’s unique needs. As a result, you’ll have a better idea of how a mattress will make you feel and how that might affect your quality of sleep at night.

When comparing Tempur-Pedic vs. Sleep Number mattresses, keep these aspects in mind as you do your research before making a final decision.

  • Durability: Wear and tear, such sagging, may cause a mattress to lose its ability to feel comfortable or to support spinal alignment. If your mattress doesn’t last as long as you’d want, you may end up having to buy a new one sooner than you’d like. Choosing a mattress that’s made with high-quality materials is one of the most essential aspects in determining how long it will last.
  • Motion Isolation:As the person they share the bed with moves around on the mattress, motion isolation provides a buffer to keep them from being disturbed. It’s especially critical for couples, especially if one or more of the partners has a habit of tossing and turning. Foam, particularly memory foam, tends to be the most effective at preventing motion transfer, and the comfort system plays a major role in this.
  • Sex:Mattresses are used for more than just sleeping. As a general rule, couples want to have a mattress that doesn’t impede their sexual activity. When moving on a mattress, you should feel a bounciness, or responsiveness, that makes it easier to have sex. Sex can be hindered by the feeling of being stuck in the mattress, which can be caused by memory foam or other low-responsive polyfoams.
  • Temperature Neutrality:Those who have a tendency to overheat their beds should look for a mattress with temperature neutrality as a key feature. There are some materials that are more prone to heat retention, which can cause disturbances and discomfort in the night’s sleep. Traditional memory foam, as well as foams with deep contouring that reduce airflow around the body, are examples of these materials. To keep a mattress cool, manufacturers often include measures that enhance airflow and breathability.
  • Pressure Relief: There are places on the body where the mattress has higher impact, and if these areas aren’t properly cushioned, they can cause pain and even throw the spine out of alignment. Because memory foam is able to cushion the body appropriately to its weight, it provides a greater amount of pressure alleviation. In particular, those who sleep on their sides or have pressure spots on their bodies can benefit from this.
  • Off-gassing: VOCs are volatile organic chemicals that are created during certain steps in the mattress manufacturing process (VOCs). Some of these are safe for human consumption, however they may have an unpleasant smell. Some people find the “new mattress scent” to be minimal, while others find it irritating. This is only a problem for persons who are extremely sensitive to smells, as the smell normally dissipates within a few hours.
  • Ease of Movement: If you’re a sleeper who likes to change positions during the night or if you’re a night owl, you’ll want to keep mobility in mind while shopping for a new mattress. Easy movement on the bed can be achieved with a mattress that is more sensitive and less likely to sink in.
  • Edge Support: In many mattresses, the edge is the weakest spot, making it difficult to feel secure when sitting or sleeping near it. A larger mattress may feel smaller since less of the mattress’s real surface area is usable. Edge compression can be a problem for some materials, such as soft foams. Edge support can be improved by using coil-based support cores and perimeter foam reinforcements.

In-Depth Pricing

For both your health and your budget, a well-chosen mattress is a need. If you know what you’re looking for in a mattress, you can obtain a fantastic deal no matter what your budget is.

To determine the cost of a mattress, there are many variables. Many aspects of a product’s design and construction, as well as where it was created and how it was shipped can be considered. Specialty mattresses sometimes have a higher price tag because of their unique features.

As a general rule, customers don’t end up paying the MSRP (the sticker price of a product). Customers can evaluate mattresses and their prices at their own pace thanks to frequent deals, especially when shopping online. There is no need to negotiate or haggle when it comes to online promotions and discounts.

Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number beds are both luxury brands, however there is a large price difference between their product lines.

Mattresses from Sleep Number and Tempur-Pedic sell for more than the average price online. These are high-end brands with established reputations, and while they frequently provide discounts, they are hardly bargains.

However, the c2 and, to a lesser extent, the c4 are more economical options from Sleep Number. These are excellent solutions for folks who wish to adjust the firmness of their mattress without breaking the budget. However, for persons who weigh less than 230 pounds and require less cushioning than the c2 and c4, this may not be a big deal.

With the most economical options, Sleep Number also offers the most expensive ones. The most expensive sizes, such as a Split King, are the most difficult. The more expensive Sleep Number beds are equipped with the most advanced comfort features.

Tempur-products Pedic’s are not as affordable as the c2 or c4 from Sleep Number, but the performance of TEMPUR foam can justify the increased price for consumers who prefer the sensation of memory foam. The latest Tempur-Pedic foams raise the price of the LUXEbreeze model.

Trials, Warranty and Delivery

Traditional brick-and-mortar mattress shopping is not the same as purchasing a mattress online. With internet shopping, clients can save time and money while yet being unsure of the process.

The next three parts address common questions that first-time mattress purchasers ask while purchasing online.

Shipping

Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number are the exceptions to the rule when it comes to internet mattress purchases, which are often compressed and supplied as a mattress-in-a-box. As a result of their extensive mattress delivery experience, both manufacturers provide White Glove service.

It indicates that the company works with you to set a delivery date and time. Mattress installers arrive at this point to complete the installation. Your old mattress will also be removed and any packaging or other materials related to the installation will be disposed of by the specialists.

With the purchase of a Tempur-Pedic mattress, White Glove delivery is included. White Glove delivery from Sleep Number costs $199, so clients need to figure it into their total mattress price.

Customers Outside the Contiguous United States

There may be fewer delivery possibilities for customers outside the 48 contiguous states or in some outlying ZIP areas.

Tempur-Pedic charges $600 for White Glove delivery to Alaska and Hawaii. The White Glove delivery service offered by Sleep Number is not available in Hawaii. There may be an additional fee for delivery and installation by Sleep Number in remote places in Alaska.

Sleep Trial and Returns

Online shopping differs from in-store shopping in that you can’t lie down on the bed before making a decision. If you don’t like the mattress, you can return it for a full refund throughout the trial period.

An in-home sleep trial is highly valued by customers since it allows them to try out a mattress for a prolonged period of time under “real-world” conditions. This is a better way to determine if a mattress is right for you than spending 15 minutes trying it out in a mattress store. If you’re not satisfied with the mattress after the trial period, you can have it picked up by the firm if you’d like to return it.

A sleep trial is available with both Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number mattresses.

  • Customers can experience a Tempur-Pedic mattress for a period of 90 nights at their residence. Before starting a return, you must have the mattress for at least 30 nights. Return shipping is $175 if you don’t want to keep the product.
  • You must keep the mattress for 30 nights before you can return it to Sleep Number for a refund. You may expect to pay between $199 and $249 for return shipping on Sleep Number beds.

Warranties

You’re not stuck with a defective product if you have a warranty. In the event that a component fails due to a flaw in the materials or manufacturing process, you are covered under the guarantee for either mattress repair or replacement.

Customers should be aware that warranties do not cover natural wear and tear on a mattress; they only cover actual flaws.

A warranty’s duration and terms are subject to change. If you’ve owned the mattress for a long time, your warranty coverage may be reduced. A prorated warranty is what it’s called. For the duration of the warranty, your coverage is not prorated.

The 10-year warranty offered by Tempur-Pedic is non-prorated. Tempur-Pedic will repair or replace your mattress if a problem arises during this time period. Customers will only be responsible for any shipping expenses associated with a warranty claim.

All of Sleep Number’s mattresses are covered by a 25-year warranty. Repairs and replacements are fully covered for the first two years under this prorated warranty. It begins at 20% and rises 4% each year in years 3-20 for customers to pay for repairs or replacements. As of year 21, the customer bears 96% of the expense. Shipment charges are also borne by the client beginning in year three of the contract. The SleepIQ system and a remote control come with a two-year, non-prorated warranty.

tempurpedic-vs-sleep-number-4.jpg

When you buy a Sleep Number mattress, you’ll get a longer warranty, but you’ll also get less coverage after two years. After a certain time period, the customer’s share of expenditures becomes so large that the warranty’s value diminishes to zero. All sleepIQ system and remote issues that emerge after two years have to be paid for by clients.

Tempur-Pedic vs. Sleep Number customer service and reviews

Tempur-Pedic

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are universally praised by reviewers.

The mattresses are routinely praised by reviewers for their ability to alleviate back and neck pain. Additionally, customers have noted that the company’s staff was courteous and simple to work with, and that deliveries were timely.

Sleep Number

Takeaway

Make sure you know exactly what type of mattress you want before you begin your search.

People may modify the firmness of their Sleep Number air mattresses to suit their preferences. They’re also a great choice for anyone with back problems.

These mattresses are made using Tempur-Pedic technology that relieves pressure, and some of them are also available in hybrid forms.

It’s safe to say that both businesses are known for their high-quality products, strong reputations, and devoted followings.
